Rules & Regulations
All of our rules apply to both OOC and IC situations, both on Folklore and in the Folklore Discord server, and staff discretion may be applied under any circumstance if there is reason for concern.
While OOC and IC should absolutely be kept separate at all times, each and every player is to be held accountable for what their written words represent. If another player has reason to feel uncomfortable, then they are wholly entitled to remove themselves from a situation and to reach out to staff, even if an explicitly stated rule has not been broken.
Moreover, it is important to reiterate that all rules detailed within the guidebook apply to the Discord. In joining an OOC account to Folklore and participating in the community, you are implicitly agreeing to the below mentioned.
1.
Joining Requirements: Folklore is an intermediate-advanced equine RPG geared towards an 18+ audience. In the interest of the mature themes that may be included on Folklore, all members must be 18 years or older. Minors will be removed from the site and/or Discord without question if their age is disclosed.
2.
Language: We have few to no limitations on swearing. However, derogatory remarks towards fellow players, other races, genders, ethnicities, sexualities, etc. will not be tolerated. Additionally, all threads must be
written in English. Inclusion of other languages in dialogue is more than welcome, though we ask that a translation be provided.
3.
Word Count Requirements: We have
no word count restrictions. While we strongly believe in quality over quantity, it is generally considered good etiquette to ensure your writing partner has enough content to respond to.
4.
Writing Etiquette: There is to be absolutely no god-modding or powerplaying. All forcible interaction, namely violence, should be discussed OOC by players beforehand. Please don't assume consent! Moreover, bear in mind that your character isn't omnipotent - you reading a thread doesn't mean your character should know of events taking place miles away. Please be considerate, kind, and mindful of your fellow roleplayers.
5.
Retconning: Retconning (i.e, retraction of events that have happened between characters) of on-site history is prohibited unless all members involved are consenting and the Squad has been informed.
6.
Coding and Imagery: All graphics and coding included on-site
must have proper credentials. Moreover, usage of non-stock images is strictly prohibited, and the image in question will be removed. We do not allow images depicting humans. The aforementioned apply to moodboard images and profile images, as well. Non-stock images or images depicting humans will be replaced with a Folklore TOS placeholder. Profile CSS is permitted, but codes that break pages will be removed or corrected. We do not allow codes to be "harvested" and used without the creator's permission.
7.
Accounts: Folklore is a
one account per character site. All users are required to first register an
OOC Account, and then employ the
Account Switcher to easily change.
8.
The Golden Rule:Above all, please be courteous and kind to your fellow members, as well as Squad members. Disputes should never be handled publicly, and the Squad is more than happy to help resolve issues that may arise! Bullying and harassment are not tolerated, and members are encouraged to reach out to us if they feel they're being intimidated or harassed.
(NEW) 9.
Regarding Hearsay: You should never operate under the assumption that something "the squad told me" is true. If you have questions, please ask us! We are happy to clarify, elaborate, and to help you in any way that we can. If an answer did not come directly from us, we make no guarantees that it is accurate.
• Mature narrations are permitted within reason. Explicit narration is strictly prohibited. The following rules apply both in and out of character:
○ All scenes depicting acts of sexual activity must fade to black.
○ Pornographic material is prohibited both onsite and in the Folklore Discord.
○ We do not allow rape or sexual misconduct. This includes allusions or implications. Rape, forcebreeding, etc. is absolutely prohibited from occurring on site or in character histories. If it has occurred in your character's history, you may make NO explicit mentions nor insinuations of it. Written histories may include vague declarations of having 'endured trauma' and nothing more.
○ We do not allow direct or explicit incestuous themes on Folklore. I.e: parent/child, sibling/sibling, etc.
○ We do not allow solicitation or grooming of minors. This includes allusions or implications. (21 years or younger in the case of characters). Moreover, characters younger than 21 are not permitted in threads containing sexual themes. Older characters are not permitted to lust after, fantasize, or in any way desire minors.
○ Narrations of gore and violence are permitted within reason, and given the appropriate thread tags are used.
○ Depictions of mental illness and physical disabilities are permitted. However, we ask that you do your research, and that you do not use any disability as the crux of your character’s development. Moreover, we ask that you please exclude terminology and labels. If unsure, please feel free to consult with a staff member.
• All character histories that include mention of any of the aforementioned themes must include a disclaimer in their header and
omit forbidden themes entirely.
The aforementioned are non-negotiable, bannable offenses.
Please Note: Our rules regarding these themes are meant only to protect our community from overall discomfort. We, as a team, do not believe in romanticizing these themes through roleplay, and do not believe we have any right to stand as judges to whether or not a theme is written "realistically" or "accurately."
None of the aforementioned rules are open to contest. If you have questions, or would like confirmation that something is acceptable, please feel free to reach out to a Squad member. Failure to abide by these rules, deliberately breaking them, or otherwise refusing to remove something deemed offensive will result in a ban.
• Mature Tags: Threads including any of the aforementioned mature themes must include one of the Mature Topic tags we have available to members when posting new threads. If the nature of a thread changes, please update the tags accordingly.
While reviewing this section, please bear in mind that Folklore and its unique Guardian system poses some challenges for the squad. We try our utmost to accommodate player-plots while also staying true to our site lore. Sometimes, we have to say no to things. Othertimes, your character may be ICly removed due to otherworldly intervention. We ask, above all else, that you approach Guardianship with the hope and expectation of expanding on the site, rather than expanding on your character.
1.
The Squad is here to help. However, we are to be treated with respect, regardless of IC decisions or OOC disapproval of ideas. We will not tolerate mistreatment, rudeness, etc. to any squad member. We are here to help you.
2. You understand that, in line with site lore and in staying true to our challenging systems,
a Guardian may be canonically removed at any time should they fit certain parameters.
Please read: You understand that, while we are willing to work with you on certain plots, we cannot allow mass-world destruction / war / torture of disciples / etc. blatant misuse of Guardian power without eventual and inevitable Allmother intervention, per our site-lore. Guardians are chosen by the powers of Mythos to protect the world of Mythos. We encourage plots like these to be oriented toward the Kingdoms system when it is unlocked via exploring Edana.
3. You understand that we
cannot put a valid Challenge against a Guardian on pause for the sake of a plot.
4. You understand that
your character's actions as Guardians may be used against them in a Challenge by Disciple, regardless of if they were plotted with consent or not.
(NEW) 5. You understand the instated rule that all site-changing plots that involve a Guardian (including a Challenge by Consent)
must occur:
○ In a private thread with another Guardian that is common knowledge to all,
○ or in a public thread open to any participants.
6. You understand that
the interests of a Guardian player are never, and will never, be put above the interests of the community.
7. You understand that
your character will be canonically removed as Guardian 6 months from the day they received their power, and subsequently succeeded by a new Guardian, unless they are challenged prior.
(NEW) 8. Guardians that are successfully
removed via a Challenge by Disciple or otherworldly intervention may never be selected as Guardians again. Removal via Challenge does not apply to the Guardian of Twilight, but otherworldly intervention does. Players are welcome to audition new characters, but previous Guardians that shirked or abused their duties cannot be reinstated.
Why not? In keeping with our site lore, it would not canonically make sense for the Allmother to remove a character due to their shortcomings in, or otherwise the abuse of, the massive task of protecting Mythos and its people, only for that same character to be chosen by the Crystal a second time.
