Battling
Battling on Folklore is a completely optional system employing a basic stats system and tamper-free dice rolls codes on-site. It is simple, straightforward, and here for your creative use. There are no set-in-stone EXP or stat rewards for winning a fight. Rather, this is in place in case you don't want to decide who wins a brawl, or who prevails in a friendly spar. Better yet, Guardians are welcomed and invited to use this system in contests of battle... or whatever else their heart desires!
Unsure of what's impacting your character's stats?
Hover over the number on your character's profile. This will show where that number is coming from!
Buffs are any add-on in parenthesis to health, attack, or defense that adds a + number. Debuffs are any add-on in parenthesis to health, attack, or defense that subtracts a - number.
Our stats are calculated automatically upon filling out the Battle Statistics section of your character's profile. This, coupled with basic information such as your character's species, height range, class, build, and magic determine their cumulative stats.
Staff will not strictly moderate whether you choose to update your character's stats. Realistically, you should not be modifying their height, build, or species throughout the duration of their life on Mythos from the time of acceptance. However, we take no issue with your character's battle class or any of their buffs/debuffs being changed. You may not, however, change your character's stats in the midst of a fight.
In order to begin a fight, post a private thread tagging your opponent. Alternatively, you may initiate a fight in the midst of an existing thread. Battles on-site require some amount of math, coupled with a basic template for your character's stats and your dice roll. The first attack your character makes should include the following template at the top or bottom of your post.
Please use the below format for the first attack of the fight.
<div style="margin: auto; width: 35%; background-color:RGB(0,0,0,0.1); padding: 10px;"><strong>Current HP:</strong> HP HERE
<strong>Defense:</strong> CUMULATIVE DEFENSE HERE (STAT + ANY BUFFS OR DEBUFFS)
<strong>Attack:</strong> CUMULATIVE ATTACK HERE (STAT + ANY BUFFS OR DEBUFFS)
<strong>Attack Summary if landed:</strong> ATTACK SUMMARY
<b>Attack #/3</b>
</div>
[roll=attackattempt]
[roll=damage]
If the attack attempt you roll is higher than your opponent's defense, then your attack lands. In that event, during your opponent's next post, their HP should reflect a deduction of the number you rolled during your damage roll + your character's attack stat.
In other words, if you roll a 9 for attack attempt and your opponent's defense is 7, then your hit landed! If your character's attack is 6.5 and you rolled damage of 3, then your attack landed for 9.5. That means your opponent's health is now 90.5.
Each character has 3 attacks unless otherwise decided by players.
The character with the highest HP at the end of the battle is the winner.
Please use the below format for any subsequent attacks of the fight to reflect damage dealt in your opponent's previous post.
<div style="margin: auto; width: 35%; background-color:RGB(0,0,0,0.1); padding: 10px;">
<b>NAME did not land a hit. // NAME landed a hit for DAMAGE ROLL + ATTACK STAT = TOTAL damage</b>
<strong>Current HP:</strong> HP HERE
<strong>Defense:</strong> CUMULATIVE DEFENSE HERE (STAT + ANY BUFFS OR DEBUFFS)
<strong>Attack:</strong> CUMULATIVE ATTACK HERE (STAT + ANY BUFFS OR DEBUFFS)
<strong>Attack Summary if landed:</strong> ATTACK SUMMARY
<b>Attack #/3</b>
</div>
[roll=attackattempt]
[roll=damage]
Please Note: Your dice roll will not display when previewing your post. It will display when you post the thread. The only way to "Cheat" the dice roll system is to delete your post. The number cannot be edited. If staff notice your post has been deleted and reposted for a better dice roll without the consent of your opponent, we will reach out to you and your opponent will be advised. Please be aware that Folklore displays when a post has been removed.
