The Allmother
Once loved and coveted by Ursus, the Allmother cultivated the land as Ursus created it. From her came the Eight children that she and Ursus called their own and it is through her that they learned all they did so they could help her take care of it. She loved Mythos, Ursus, and her children above all else but it is only after Ursus grew too greedy that she disappeared, never to be seen again.
Volume III: The Land of Light The Allmother has returned, her Crystal restored, and with her renewed presence she has endorsed the Twilighteans so they may now be known as the Disciples of Twilight, naming their leader the newest Guardian.
Ursus
Creator and destroyer, Ursus was the beginning and nearly the end of Mythos. With power unlike any other, he created the mountains and valleys that form the land we see today. Once filled with good intentions, it was only after his desire and greed got the better of him that all began to crumble, leading his children into tricking him and killing him in the molten lava of what is now Mournstead.
The Eight
The Eight children of Ursus and the Allmother: Terra, Dalia, Sorex, Calva, Simia, Proteus, Barbus, Celaeno. It is the Eight that shine brightly in the sky, having made the stars their home after the disappearance of the Allmother and the death of Ursus.
Holy Sites & Guardian Crystals
Pray, offer sacrifice, or simply visit the Holy Sites. Guardian Crystals are the tangible evidence of a Guardian’s existence, where the Guardian’s powers are safely housed when not linked to a mortal’s vessel. They are generally a solid color (this correlates with the color gem that can be seen at their site on the map) and emit a steady glow. They sometimes, but not always, will fuse with an object in the land, though they may appear simply as a large (approximately 30-50 feet tall) crystal.
The Inbetween
The Inbetween is open to members and non-members of Folklore alike. It exists as part of Mythos, in the same universe as every other territory and event that guides our site, but aside from the memories gained from visiting The Inbetween, nothing is permanent. This is because there are a few exceptions to Folklore’s rules inside this mysterious forest clearing: there are few restrictions to appearance, magical powers, or site membership.
Utilize this board to post a character you are on the fence about joining, or convince a friend to come post a character of theirs with one of your on-site characters. Write your on-site character as you would normally, or subject them to odd spikes in their magic for the duration of their visit.
When your character leaves The Inbetween, everything returns to normal. They will be able to reflect on who they visited and what happened to them, but the only permanent part of their visit will be the memories. Those characters that are posted here but are not part of Mythos as a whole will simply return to their homeworlds as soon as they exit the forest clearing, bringing with them only their memories.
The official rules regarding this common land can be found in the Inbetween,
here.
Queensthrone
Despite housing the most modern structures of this world, Queensthrone is still steeped in myth and legend. Many buildings hide secret passageways underground, sport hidden doorways to treasure troves, and tempt those with sticky hooves by placing valuable statues and artistry in plain sight.
Ursus' Cry
An intimidating volcano that is still active to this day, Mythosene history states that Mournstead is where Ursus’ children tricked him into looking for the Allmother before causing him to fall in. Today, many do not believe this to be true. It is said, however, that if you listen closely you can hear the faint echo of a man screaming and crying out for the Allmother within Mournstead’s throat. None have ever dared climb up the active volcano to see if someone might actually be up there.
Furies Echo
In the cold north of Mythos, namely Dewsdour and Nyamene Isle, any traveler might come across one of the many glacial chasms that cleave the land in two. It is said that these chasms are the remnants of Ursus’ fury and wrath that the eight children could not mend after his death. As a result of being created through Ursus’ destruction of Mythos, it is also said that there are hidden mysteries and beasts at the bottom of the chasms. What might be lying below, however, is something no one truly knows.
Greater Celestials
Made of stardust and dark matter, these supernatural beings were created by Ursus in his hunt for the Allmother. Believed to be nothing more than a boogeyman to keep children from getting into trouble, Greater Celestials are said to be tall imposing beings made of dark matter from space itself. Almost impossible to see in the dark as a result, stories say that if you look closely between the hundreds of trees that dot the land you can see them move, waiting for a poor soul to get close enough to one of them.
the Kikiyaon of Dewsdour
A well-known Mythosene folktale says that the oversize owls who inhabit this forest are actually witches in disguise. For this reason, many natives claim that it is bad luck to encounter the avians of Dewsdour. Legend says that all Kikiyaon originate from an immortal witch who’d once called Mythos home. It’s believed that her spirit still lives within them, trapped by the Guardians in order to protect its citizenry, and that any attacks by the Kikiyaon are attempts to find a new vessel for the witch. Should the talons of a Kikiyaon spill the blood of a Mythosene, there’s no telling what could become of that victim.
the Evil Spirit of Vinevrin
It is said that an evil spirit roams the Vinevrin jungle each night after the sun has set. It looks for those who have found themselves lost, disguises itself as someone they trust, and lures them further and further into the jungle. This spirit is said to abandon the adventurer once they are completely lost, waits for them to die, and then returns to collect their soul.
the Nettlebrush of Dolumar
Legends say some hallucinations caused by the poison of the nettlebrush can sometimes hold truth, turning those lucky enough to test this theory into prophets. Whether or not this is true is yet to be seen.
the Ma'hom of Pont Ciel
Mythosene say that, in the evergreen forests of Pont Ciel, if one listens closely they will hear crying. It could very well be caused by the wind howling through the trees, but stories say that if you follow the sound of weeping you will find a woman. A crying woman. Who she is no one knows, but it is believed to be a shade of the Allmother herself—a ghost of her that cries for the Mythos that Ursus destroyed long ago.
the Tkoaoari Flower
In the land of Mythos there is said to be a flower more rare than any other. A flower that emits a sweet aroma so strong and potent it is impossible to miss. What this single, special flower looks like though no one knows. People say, however, that if you smell it, do not go looking for it. For a single touch from it will cause excruciating pain.
the Samosa'gh of Lona’s Hollow
A place that already carries an eerie atmosphere, it is all too easy to believe that something sinister would call Lona’s Hollow home. And the Mythosene say that something does. An individual that looks like any other, any who are brave enough (or foolish enough) to trail after this figure will soon find themselves lost forever in the swamp. What has happened to those who have never been found? No one in Mythos knows, but they say that a heartrending scream can always be heard when another life is lost.
