Auditioning & Activity
Guardians are allotted a 6-month period of guaranteed power.

Once their 6 months has expired, their mortal body grows weak. Unable to contain the power of the crystal, it inevitably departs them, returning to its home crystal to choose a new vessel...
Auditioning...
Auditions will be held whenever there is a vacancy and a Guardian’s powers have returned to their Crystal. A template will be provided and Folklore’s members will vote on the next Guardian. To learn about challenges, please head here.
Activity...
Activity requirements of Guardians are based strictly upon quest replies. Guardians have a 3-strike system, whereby they are required to reply to quests within 7-days of their posting. If they fail to do so, and do not advise staff as to their absence or need of assistance, they receive a strike. Missed quests do not need to be concurrent for tallies to be gathered.
Removal...
The powers of a Guardian can be removed for a number of reasons. These include, but are not limited to...
- Failure to meet activity requirements
- Repeatedly granting magic or wishes that break Folklore’s general rules
- Targeting the characters of a specific player for OOC reasons
- Other plot reasons, with prior discussion between Staff and Guardian players
- Viable challenges

Ongoing Vacancy...
If one or more of the Guardian positions are available and, for whatever reason, they cannot be filled, the Guardian Crystal itself (with the assistance of the Folklore Staff) will provide resolution to all requests.
Guardian Behavior
You are free to have your Guardian behave however they so please.
However, bear in mind that they are intended to be servants of the people.
Your character may believe they are a God who reigns supreme! But their disciples are just as free to remind them: they were a mortal, too.
While we are thrilled to offer you this opportunity for personal IC development, remember that the goal of this system is to expand upon the overarching story of Mythos!

While it is preferred that a character’s personality matches the demeanor of the Guardian they have been chosen to be, this is up to the discretion of the player and their preferred character arc. We do ask that, if your character’s personality does not match the Guardian they are chosen to be, that they experience some sort of influence from the power that makes them more inclined to act the way the power believes they should.

Hosting Events & Site-Changing Plots
Guardians may only host two events during the term of their Guardianship. This is to prevent overwhelming our playerbase (with four Guardians at any given time, that leaves room for eight in-depth events spread out over the course of 6 months), to prevent overwhelming staff, and to encourage in-depth thought and sincerity when it comes to Events.
Staff are more than happy to help you plan, advertise, or reward events. Just talk to us!
!!! Please Note: Folklore no longer permits Guardians to host events/plots/etc that are closed to individual players or characters. Any plot that will change the course of a Guardianship, the nature of the site, or the relationships between Disciples (i.e, Conduct vs. Accord / Strife vs. Twilight) may only be depicted in one of the following:
Staff are more than happy to help you plan, advertise, or reward events. Just talk to us!
- A public thread open to all characters.
- A private thread between Guardians, the contents of which will be permissible within the realm of IC as common knowledge by all characters on-site.
While a basic outline of guidelines and expectations are provided below, unique scenarios are inevitable and can be handled on a case-by-case basis.
Those members who play Guardians will have access to a private Discord channel with the Staff for plotting, updates, and questions.
Whenanswering communes , Guardians must reply to threads in the order they were posted. Guardians are free to reply to their own personal threads at their leisure and in any order, but communal threads must receive chronological replies. (I.e, a request from March 3rd must be answered before the request from March 4th.)
How do disciples post requests?
Whencreating requests , disciples need only post an in-character thread in the Communal subboard for their Guardian. They must use the prefix that best fits their request, and follow any other template requirements posted by the Guardian. This post should be no different than any other IC post, and should depict them communing with the Crystal in whatever way they choose to pay tribute.
Responding to Requests
There are times that those who call Mythos home will seek out the blessings of the Guardians, whether it be for magic, immortality, or a plethora of other reasons. It is the Guardian’s responsibility to respond to these requests from their Disciples.
In general, Guardians can respond to these requests with a quest for their Disciple. If they are feeling particularly generous, maybe they simply grant the request without asking anything of their follower. Or if they aren’t feeling up to entertaining that day, they can refuse the request. This is up to the discretion of the player and how the Guardian is feeling on that day.
Requests Might Include…
Refusing Requests
Guardians have the right of refusal if a character requests something they would not typically grant as guided by their title, personality, or beliefs.
For example , if a character requests that the Guardian of Strife assists them in restoring peace between two family members via magical means, that Guardian may refuse unless convinced to assist.
What can Guardians Grant?
Punishments
More often than not, there will be no punishment for quests remaining incomplete.
However, a Guardian may decide to impose one on occasion. These should always be short-term, temporary punishments that will fade or can be overcome. If the affected character’s player would like for a punishment to remain permanent, this is also fine.
Moreover , Guardians should be aware of their actions. A Guardian that continually shirks duties, ignores their devout followers, or otherwise misuses the power of their respective crystal might find themselves faced with consequences for their own desecration. Players who choose to play Guardians implicitly agree not only to the aforementioned responsibilities, but also to the possibility that their character may face otherworldly justice should they misuse their power.

Answering Communes & Granting Quests
We trust that our Guardians make their choices strictly based on in-character behavior and traits. For example, a Guardian is allowed to be holier-than-thou and unwilling to bestow a gift simply because they do not like a character or because they disapprove of the request. However, our Guardians are not allowed to deny gifts strictly because of OOC reasons or feelings.
Despite this, all characters who post to Commune with their Guardian will have their request answered, via otherworldly means (aka the Staff) if necessary.
With the perks of being an all-powerful Guardian comes a short list of responsibilities. As an integral part of Folklore’s storyline, it is up to the Guardians of Mythos to grant requests and wishes that are presented to them by the residents in their respective Commune boards.

What can Guardians Grant?
Literally anything that does not involve:
- Permanently changing the topography of Mythos.
- Granting a non-Guardian character the power of a Guardian. (i.e, a Guardian may not elect their successor or make another character all-powerful)
- Granting a magic, appearance, or item that does not adhere to Folklore’s rules.
- Injuring, killing, or affecting a character that is not involved in the in-character request without permission from all parties involved.

Additional Notes
1. None of the Guardian’s quest posts are required to be lengthy!
2. Guardians are STILL characters! They are free to explore all realms, to participate in SWPs, to make relationships, and more.
3. Guardians are ALWAYS required to answer communal threads, but they are NOT required to say yes!
4. Part of the fun of this system is that your character can deny their enemy; they can choose to use their power for evil rather than good; they can take the blessing of the Crystal of Conduct and turn it into a curse of war… but they must be prepared for otherworldly consequences.
5. If a guardian says NO, otherworldly influences will ensure that characters are still given magic they request.
HAVE FUN WITH IT! Your character has suddenly been given the power of a GOD! Don't feel obliged to change their personality to fit the mold. Perhaps the most unsuspecting plot device or influence upon the land is the character who never wanted this - or worse, the character who always did…
We understand the demand of this position. You may reply with one sentence, one word, or just a quick summary of how you would like a character to earn your Guardian's blessing - but you MUST REPLY!
